Little Swans promotes an awareness and understanding of different people, including those with disabilities and/or special needs, different religions, cultures and beliefs. The staff, directors, volunteers, parents and carers will not tolerate any prejudice. We believe that no child, individual or family should be excluded from preschool activities on the grounds of age, gender, sexual orientation, family status, disability, race, ethnic origin, culture, religion or belief.

We believe that all children and members of staff should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential whatever their background, identity and circumstance. We are committed to creating a community that recognises and celebrates difference within a culture of respect and cooperation. We appreciate that a culture which promotes equality will create a positive environment and a shared sense of belonging for all who work, learn and use the services of our pre-school. We recognise that equality will only be achieved by the whole pre-school community working together – our learners, staff, directors and parents in particular.  Further details of the 'Scheme' are displayed in the foyer.

Special Educational Needs (SEND)

We welcome all children to our preschool and support their individual needs. We have an inclusive environment and support all children to join in activities provided. Our preschool layout is flexible, and we can adapt this to meet children's needs e.g., moving furniture. We value all languages and use them in a range of our displays around the room. We ensure all resources are displayed at children's height and can be accessed independently in child friendly open boxes or on a shelf. We have access to a disabled toilet and child sized toilets at all times. Our staff are always seeking training opportunities to improve our practice.  We use Makaton Sign Language to support all children with their early communication skills. We have recently attended Elklan training and Communication Champion Training and are beginning to implement the skills learnt into our practice. We use tapestry and welcome contributions from home/other settings your child attends. Our SENCo is available most sessions and is happy to answer any questions and accommodate your child's needs. We work with all professionals working with your child, working together to support their development and progress within the setting. We work closely with local schools during the summer term to support transition to school.Special Educational Needs.

Photography

We regularly take photographs in Little Swans to record children’s activities and progress. Some of these photographs may be used within their “Learning Journey”. From time to time photos are also used for wall displays and within the press or on Little Swans website.

When your child starts at Little Swans you will be given a permission slip to complete in order that we may take and use your child’s photographs for the above purposes. If you choose to decline permission we will ensure that they are excluded from any photography.
